Did you make them? Either way, they’re beautiful! And I’m totally willing to take myself out of the giveaway since you know me and stuff =)
We try to make giving a part of our regular lives. Whether that’s donating to a special offering or buying things on sale and with coupons for pennies for food drives. I’ve been trying to get the kids to see how they can give to others as well. This year we made a batch of cinnamon/applesauce ornaments – then we brought them to church on Christmas Eve and gave them away to the families in our congregation. Really, giving in general is more about looking at what you can do than it is about feeling bad that you can’t give $X to a certain group or fund.
Looking for ways to help stretch donations that have already been given is another important way to give. For instance, our congregation is trying to cut it’s heating expenses by buying or making energy saving window coverings for the winter. A few of us got together to pour over catalogs – especially when there were sales – to find out what we could do with the money we had set aside for this project. We soon realize that we could purchase 2-3 coverings (we have 11 windows), or we could put in the extra time and effort and make them ourselves. It will take a bit longer, but we have enough people with sewing know-how that we can do it. So when we planned to purchase the materials, I hunted out a coupon for 40% off material needed, giving us almost enough to pay for all 11 windows (and one person swallowed the last bit – about $35 – to finish the whole thing).
